OUR VISION

To empower people in rural communities through education. The QEC believes that the future of our country is directly linked to the education of our children. Our aim is to uplift rural children affording them an equal footing in any opportunity in life.

MISSION

After identifying illiteracy as being the fundamental problem in rural schools in our area,  we designed a one-on-one English reading programme for grade 1 to grade 3 students and offer various after school activities at our education centre.

We endeavor to support the community beyond education whenever possible.

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS

Preschool Support

Our ECD teacher training workshops offer support, resources and train teachers to teach through play using recycled material, stimulating young children's cognitive development.

Volunteers

Our volunteer programme allows us to undertake far reaching projects with great success.  Besides applying our one-on-one reading programme at schools, the volunteers teach a variety of skills after school at our education centre, offering the children opportunities to practice their spoken English.

One-On-One Reading Programme

Our one-on-one reading programme makes a steady impact on Grade 1 to Grade 3 students at surrounding junior schools.  We teach phonics to being able to read with comprehension, forming the foundation of these students English ability.

Annual Maths Olympiad

We have created an annual Maths Olympiad in which surrounding high school top achievers final year students battle it out for the converted floating trophy.

Introducing Scouts

We have started the '1st Ngcizela Scout Group' at our education centre where we actively engage and support young boys and girls in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.

Creche Container

We partnered with Breadline SA who sponsored a refurbished shipping container as a pre-school classroom, an upgrade from their dilapidated shack, and the 2 to 5 year old children now have a safer area, more conducive to learning.

Kulungile takes her first steps

With the benevolent goodwill of a orthopedic specialist and an international donation, we were able to assist a young girl from our village who was born without legs to be able to walk again with state of the art prosthetics.

Success Stories

We have identified high achievers from our rural area who we have either sponsored or have organized university scholarships.  Their achievements range from bachelors, masters to ongoing PHD's.  In return, these stars have become role models and plough back into their community.

Initiative

We introduced Isolomzi, a rural high school with Rondebosch Boys High, an affluent school in Cape Town, which led to maths tutoring and follow-up outreach programmes from their team.

Education Centre

We have invested in an education centre where students attend various after school activities, get homework assistance, do computer classes or visit the library.

We bring love and hope to a community who live in harsh conditions where poverty is prevalent.
